Thomas J. McKiernan purchased The Abercrombie Company in June of 1976. Prior to joining The Abercrombie Company, Thomas J. McKiernan was an employee of The Kemper Insurance Companies after graduation from Central Connecticut State University in 1964 with his Bachelor of Science Degree in education. Upon joining his insurance career, he began as a student at The James S. Kemper Insurance Institute receiving his Associates in insurance. T. J. McKiernan served in many departments; claims, loss control engineering, commercial underwriting and branch manager for The Kemper Career Agents Program. T. J. McKiernan also became the Director of Agency Development for The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers Association, Inc.
T. J. McKiernan’s duties with Abercrombie Burns McKiernan & Company Insurance, include overall agency management, sales and service to the agency’s clients and the acquisition of new business.
Mr. McKiernan teaches insurance for The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers Association of Connecticut and also teaches courses for the Insurance Trust for Insurance Professionals. Courses currently teaching include: Law & Ethics, General Liability, Employment Practices Liability Errors & Omissions Liability and Prevention, Risk Management Techniques and Child Abuse Prevention.
Mr. McKiernan serves as a consultant for the legal profession in the areas of coverage disputes and Errors & Omissions claims involving agents and brokers. He assists attorneys in the areas of discovery, depositions and court testimony.
Mr. McKiernan is a member of The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers Association of which Abercrombie Burns McKiernan & Company Insurance, Inc., is a “Trusted Choice Member”, a member of The Independent Insurance Agents Association of Connecticut, Inc. The Professional Insurance Agents Association of America and The Risk Insurance Management Society.
Mr. McKiernan has been active in community and not for profit organizations for many years having served as a member of the board of directors for The Country Club of Darien, past president of The Darien Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of directors for The National Catholic Education Association, president of The National Council for Catholic Education, served as a Little League coach for 26 years and basketball coach for 22 years having been elected to The Stamford Basketball Hall of Fame, serves as the volunteer business manager for The Church of St. Cecilia and an active member of the board of directors for The Salvation Army.
